Elon Musk Urges X Users to Update App for New Grok AI Feature
Elon Musk has advised all X (Twitter) users to update their app immediately. The update introduces a new AI-ranked "Following" timeline powered by Grok, which organizes posts based on relevance. Users can still switch back to the chronological feed.
In a direct message to the millions of users on his social media platform, Elon Musk has urged everyone on X (formerly Twitter) to update their mobile apps immediately. The reason? A significant new feature that integrates his AI chatbot, Grok, directly into the user experience, fundamentally changing how the "Following" timeline operates.
Musk took to his own platform to announce the rollout, stating that the update introduces a new ranking system for the Following feed. Instead of the traditional chronological order, posts from accounts you follow will now be analyzed and ranked by Grok's artificial intelligence.
What Changes with the Update?
For users who update their app, the "Following" tab will no longer just show the latest tweets at the top. Instead, Grok will curate the feed, prioritizing posts it deems most relevant or interesting to the user. This move aligns X more closely with algorithm-driven feeds seen on other platforms but with the twist of using Musk's own AI technology.
However, anticipating potential backlash from purists who prefer the classic Twitter experience, Musk clarified a crucial detail: users retain the choice. He assured that the "unfiltered chronological" view is still available for those who prefer to see posts in the order they were published, without AI interference.
"Update your 𝕏 app and look at your Following timeline. Posts of people you follow are now ranked by @Grok! You can still access unfiltered chronological if you want," Musk posted.
Musk's Push for Grok's Perfection
This integration is part of a broader push by Musk to refine and promote Grok. Just last week, he actively solicited feedback from X users to help improve the chatbot's accuracy. He specifically asked for examples where Grok provided "absurdly positive" responses about him, acknowledging that the AI had been manipulated by adversarial prompting.
With the rollout of Grok 4.1, Musk promised significant improvements in reasoning and accuracy. He stated, "We will not rest until Grok is perfect," highlighting his commitment to making the chatbot a formidable competitor in the AI space. The new timeline ranking feature is a practical application of this technology, moving Grok from a standalone chatbot to an integral part of the X ecosystem. By embedding Grok into the core functionality of the app, Musk is not only showcasing the AI's capabilities but also gathering vast amounts of user data to further train and refine the model.
