Horror on the Roads: Drunk Driver Rams Rickshaw, Killing Youth and Innocent Child in Mota Khana

Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar): A heart-wrenching road accident occurred late at night on December 21 on the Mondha Naka Flyover. A speeding car, allegedly driven recklessly, rammed into an auto-rickshaw with such force that the three-wheeler was completely crushed. The horrific crash claimed the lives of a 22-year-old man and a 6-year-old girl, while a pregnant woman among the injured suffered a miscarriage. The incident has sparked outrage in the area, with the victims' families raising serious questions about the police investigation and levelling grave allegations against the car's occupants.

Details of the Incident

According to police sources and eyewitnesses, the accident took place around 1:00 AM on December 21. An auto-rickshaw (registration number MH20 4557-EK), carrying six passengers including the driver, was travelling from Akashwani towards Kranti Chowk.

As the auto-rickshaw reached the Mondha Naka Flyover, a speeding car (registration number MH20-G00221) approaching from behind crashed into it violently. The impact was so severe that Akhtar Raza (22), a passenger in the auto, was thrown off the flyover and landed on the road below near Sindhi Colony, dying on the spot. Inside the crushed vehicle, a 6-year-old girl named Zahra also succumbed to her injuries.

A Family Devastated: Miscarriage and Critical Injuries

The tragedy extended beyond the immediate fatalities. A pregnant woman travelling in the auto-rickshaw suffered a miscarriage due to the severe physical shock and impact of the collision. Additionally, Abdul Bari (45), a resident of Arif Colony, and three other passengers sustained serious injuries.

Local residents and passersby rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to Ghati Hospital. Both deceased victims, Akhtar Raza and young Zahra, were residents of Juna Bazar. The loss of two lives from the same family has left the entire locality in mourning.

The Controversy: Who Was Driving? (Kashyap Patel vs. Viral Video)

The accident has taken a controversial turn regarding the identity of the driver. A case has been registered at the Jawahar Nagar Police Station based on a complaint by Abdul Abid Abdul Mujib (resident opposite MGM College).

  • The Police Version: According to police records, the driver of the car has been identified as Kashyap Patel. Following the incident, Patel surrendered himself at the Jawahar Nagar Police Station. The police have booked him and initiated an investigation.

  • Allegations by the Victims' Families: The families of the deceased have vehemently rejected the police's narrative and the accused's claim. They allege that:

    1. Kashyap Patel was not driving. They claim a woman was behind the wheel.

    2. There were four occupants in the car: three women and one man.

    3. The occupants, including the women, were allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

    4. Viral Video Evidence: The family cites a video recorded by a passerby immediately after the crash. They claim that a close examination of the footage shows a woman in the driver's seat.

The grieving family has demanded a fair and impartial investigation, urging the police to use the viral video as evidence, alleging that there is an attempt to shield the real culprit.

Scene of the Crash

The accident caused chaos on the Mondha Naka Flyover. After the collision, the car spun out of control, flipped over, and ended up facing the opposite direction with its front end badly damaged. The crash led to a massive traffic jam on the flyover, which was later cleared by the police.

Police Action

The Jawahar Nagar Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. Police officials stated that they are examining CCTV footage and recording statements from eyewitnesses to uncover the truth. They have assured that the allegations made by the family regarding the female driver and drunk driving will also be thoroughly investigated.

This tragic incident in Aurangabad once again highlights the fatal consequences of speeding and the alleged menace of drunk driving. While the police have named Kashyap Patel as the accused, the emergence of a viral video and the family’s steadfast claims have complicated the case. The investigation now hinges on whether the police can transparently determine who was actually driving the vehicle that destroyed a family from Juna Bazar.
